The IBM 350 disk drive contained 12,000 tracks on a 44-inch diameter platter of aluminum on a rigid spindle. The drive has the following specifications: 14 track-accesses to or from the drive hardware, with each track accessing 78 sectors per track. Drive configuration: dual-platter; 12,000 rpm; 44-inch platter Storage capacity: 2,256,000,000 (2.2 million million) bytes. 64-byte logical sector size 411 bytes per track 236 bytes per sector 12.75 microseconds for sequential access time 2.51 microseconds for seek time Many of these specifications were later included in the IBM 3592. The largest storage capacity includes the 35 of additional storage space designed to be accessed by the host system. Applications for this additional storage will have to be considered. Storage density: 6.3 gigabits per square inch. SATA interface
The IBM 350 disk drive, a products with a large disk storage system manufactured by IBM for the US Air Force in the 1950s, was a prototype unit, the first to do so in 1956. It was a dual-parallel configuration disk drive. d2c66b5586
