The main games are played from a third-person perspective, with gameplay mostly revolving around combat, shooting, exploration, and puzzles, while platforming is used to navigate the environment. Later titles began including competitive and co-operative multiplayer game modes, stealth, and driving gameplay. Uncharted drew inspiration from other games,[1] film, and additional media, and is known for featuring exotic locations. Several adaptations of the series have also been released, including a live-action film, board games, comics, and a novel.
In Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the game is set off the coast of Panama, in the Amazon rainforest, and an uncharted island off the coast of South America. The second entry in the franchise, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, was the first in the series to experiment with several locales. The game is set in the snow-capped mountain landscapes of the Tibetan Plateau in southernmost China, a museum in Istanbul, the jungles of Borneo, and the urban landscapes of Nepal. Subsequent games followed this concept, with Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception featuring the streets of London and Colombia, as well as a château in France, a castle in Syria, a city in Yemen, and the sprawling deserts of the Rub' al Khali.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End features a Panamanian jail, an estate in Italy, a cathedral in Scotland, several locations in Madagascar, and many uncharted islands in the Indian Ocean not far from Africa, to reflect Libertalia. Boston and New Orleans are also included, in both the past and present respectively, where the titular character resides.
The game is set mostly on an uncharted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, somewhere off the coast of Peru. It becomes the major setting in the game after Nate and his allies have visited the two initial locations: Panama and the Amazon rainforest, which is home to an abandoned temple and a German U-boat.
They took the map from Nate and prepared to kill him, but when Sully tried to intervene, Roman shot him instead, just moments before the U-Boat exploded (the result of a torpedo Nate accidentally triggered). Nate used the distraction to flee from Roman and Navarro and then ran into Elena, who delivered a firm punch to Nate's face for leaving her behind at the docks. After informing her of Sully's death, the two worked together to find a way out of the rainforest and escape the mercenaries. They escaped in Sully's seaplane and were en route to the uncharted island where the statue was believed to be.
The game went gold in October 2007.[4] A demo was then released on November 8, 2007 on the PlayStation Network before its final release on November 19 in North America. The demo was first placed on the North American store and was initially region-locked, such that it would only play on a North American PS3. However, this was later confirmed as a mistake, as the developers were apparently unaware that people from different regions could sign up for a North American account and download the demo; a region-free demo was released soon after.
The game was patched on August 4, 2008, in Europe and North America to version 1.01 to include support for the PlayStation 3's trophy system. There are 47 trophies in the game that match the medals that can already be won in the game and one further trophy, the Platinum Trophy, awarded when all other trophies have been collected; Uncharted was the first PlayStation 3 game to include the Platinum Trophy type. Similar to other PlayStation 3 titles that receive trophy support via downloaded patches, players must start a new save game to be awarded trophies, regardless of how many medals they received in previous playthroughs. This was enforced because the developers wanted to avoid the sharing of save data in order to gain trophies they did not earn.
The patch was described as "incredibly easy" to implement, owing to the game already containing preliminary support for trophies via its medals system. It was also stated that these hooks were already included due to Naughty Dog's belief that Sony would roll out the trophy system before the game's launch in November 2007. Despite mentioning that the game was developed as a franchise and that it lent itself to episodic content, it was later stated that no content available via download would be made for Uncharted. However, the game will integrate with PlayStation Home, and the developers will support Home with additional content. Nearly all the trophies are achievable in a single playthrough.
@ TwilightV:The news on new downloadable titles were a good first indication of whether a game might be worth getting or not. And if I want to read the Nintendo press release, I just check my mail account.
@post 40:Oh, no one has really complained that badly. Keep in mind, the official sport of the internet is bitching (or is that porn hunting?), and the posts here have been mostly reserved. After all, I once saw a 26 page bitchfest over the change in a superheroes costume color from dark blue to a darker blue. That wasn't even on a site related to comics, either: it was the artists personal website in a thread dedicated to the charity he started.
Even if you don't own a DSi, its still interesting to keep up with the latest games on it - you might eventually one day get one. Plus many people do have both a Wii and are getting a DSi - that and Nintendo treats the downloads across DSi, VC and Wiiware a single weekly event, it make sense for Nintendo Life to do the same.
They should add VC games to the DSi. They could do Game and Watch, Game Boy, Game Gear, and Game Boy Color. It'd be so sweet to be able to download old handheld games onto my DS instead of having to play them with the Gamecube controller.
Season 2 featured a plotline where the Union made a precarious alliance with the Krill, a hostile race defined by their religious fanaticism. "Shadow Realms" picks up that thread with the Orville, aided by diplomat Admiral Christie (James Read), negotiating with the Krill to explore the Kalarr Expanse, an uncharted sector of space. The Krill warn them against going into the territory, saying it's "a domain of evil" populated by demons that can possess and control anyone who comes near. Still, the Krill allow the Orville to explore the Expanse, but make it clear that they have no intention of saving the ship if it comes into danger.
