In Sibelius 3 to 6, your serial number appears at the bottom of the Help > About Sibelius dialog (in the Sibelius menu on Mac OS X).In Sibelius 7.1 or later, you will see System ID instead of the serial number.
Your Sibelius serial number is also printed on the back of the case that your original Sibelius CD-ROM came in. Don't lose this CD-ROM case, as without your serial number you will have problems reinstalling or re-registering Sibelius.
If you bought the Sibelius upgrade, it doesn't include any new serial number. You can use the serial number which you received when you purchased your first version of Sibelius. To activate the Sibelius upgrade, click here.
For GPO Sibelius Edition, your serial number is stuck on the inside front of its DVD case, unless you bought the download-only crossgrade, in which case it is in the e-mail you were sent when you bought the crossgrade.
When installing a new copy of Sibelius 6.1, you may find that after Sibelius prompts you to enter your serial number, it immediately shows an error message The serial number is invalid.
This problem is caused by a security feature in Sibelius's copy protection system, designed to disallow certain ranges of serial numbers known to be used by pirated copies of the software. Unfortunately this security feature disallows some legitimate serial numbers for Sibelius 6.1.
Once you have run the appropriate patch, run Sibelius and you will be prompted for your serial number again: enter it and you will be able to continue as normal.
Please enter the Activation ID (beginning SBAA, SWAA or SFAA) or serial number of your software. For help finding your Activation ID or serial number, see below. You don't need to type spaces or hyphens:
If you are running Sibelius 7.1 or later, you have an Activation ID rather than a serial number. To find your Activation ID, open a score, click the File tab, then choose the Help page, and click Deactivate Sibelius 7 on the right. This will launch Avid License Control: within Avid License Control, click theLicense Info tab to see your Activation ID.
For Sibelius 7.0 and earlier, the serial number begins with the letter S and is printed on a label, either on a card inside your box (Sibelius 7) or on theback of your original Sibelius CD-ROM/DVD case (Sibelius 6 and earlier). If you purchased Sibelius as a download, your serial number or Activation ID can be found by logging in to your Avid account, and clickingYour products.
If you are running Sibelius First v7 or later, you have an Activation ID rather than a serial number. To find your Activation ID, open a score, click the Filetab, then choose the Help page, and click Deactivate Sibelius 7 First on the right. This will launch Avid License Control: within Avid License Control, click theLicense Info tab to see your Activation ID.
If you buy the physical upgrade, you will receive a pretty box containing a printed Quick Start Guide to help you get up and running, four installation DVD-ROMs, and a card containing an activation code that you must use in conjunction with your existing Sibelius serial number to unlock your upgrade. You can also buy your upgrade in a bundle with PhotoScore Ultimate and/or AudioScore Ultimate, and add the optional printed Reference Guide if you like.
Yes. Your upgrade includes an activation code that must be used in conjunction with your existing Sibelius serial number to unlock your upgrade. If you have any problems doing this, please complete this form, including your Sibelius serial number and the exact wording of any error message that you see.
If you have Sibelius 2 or earlier, or if you don't have Sibelius installed, you can find your serial number on the back of your Sibelius CD-ROM case. If you have lost this for some reason, please contact registration support, giving your name, address and when and where you bought Sibelius. We may also require proof of purchase.
You must upgrade all copies which have the same serial number. This means you can upgrade single copies (e.g. serial numbers starting SCEE/SWEE) separately from other copies, and you can update all copies of a 5-pack (SCEF/SWEF) at once. However you must upgrade all of a multi-pack (SCEM/SWEM) or a network license (SCEW/SWSW) at once.
If you are using the Sibelius Licence Server, you have a pool of floating licenses, which allow you to run Sibelius on a certain number of machines at the same time: you might have a license for 30 seats, allowing you to install Sibelius on an effectively unlimited number of computers, but only run it on up to 30 computers at once, all managed automatically by the Licence Server. This is very convenient, but it does mean that Sibelius has to be able to connect to the Licence Server periodically as it runs, to check that the Licence Server is still reachable, and that it is allowed to keep running.
Sibelius 6.2 changes all that: you can check out a licence from the Licence Server to an individual computer, effectively reducing the number of computers that Sibelius can run on simultaneously in the school by one, and then disconnect that computer from the network for the duration of the license period. For example, as a teacher you could bring your laptop into school, connect to the school license server, choose Help > Check Out Licence from within Sibelius, choose to check out a license for, say, two weeks (to cover the spring term holiday), and then simply unplug your computer from the school network, and take it home.
One of the common questions we are asked is about ensuring that the music uses an appropriate page and staff size for the number of staves in a system. We have now added some intelligence to Sibelius that allows it to detect when the staves will either be much too large or much too small to be legible, or when the page will appear too cramped or too empty, and offer to make some adjustments for you. When you add or remove a sufficient number of instruments via the Create > Instruments dialog to cause a substantial change in page layout, Sibelius will ask you whether you would like it to adjust the page and/or staff size automatically to produce a more pleasing layout. (You can, of course, disable this behaviour if you want.)
Sibelius 6.2 contains well over two hundred fixes and improvements (read the complete list) and is recommended for all Sibelius 6 users. You can download the full Sibelius 6.2 installer by choosing Help > Check For Updates, or by going here. (Note that this installer can only be downloaded by customers who have already bought or upgraded to Sibelius 6: you will be required to enter your Sibelius serial number in order to obtain the download.)
If you have the been using other notation software and want to move onto Sibelius Ultimate you can purchase a 'crossgrade' version of Sibelius Ultimate at a discounted price. If you have full version of Finale, Encore, Notion or Mosaic you can 'crossgrade' to Sibelius Ultimate at a special price. Start using Sibelius Ultimate today - the number 1 notation tool in the world.
All you will need is your existing Sibelius serial number. Then once you receive your Sibelius Ultimate Annual Upgrade Plan you simply use your existing serial number with the upgrade code included. If you do not know your Sibelius serial number simply open up your existing old version of Sibelius on your computer and press the 'PRT SCN' (or print screen) button on your computer keyboard just above the arrow keys when the 'splash screen' pops up just before Sibelius loads. This will then 'copy your screen' and you can go into another program like Microsoft Word or Microsoft Paint and 'edit > paste' and it will paste your screen shot so you can easily make a note of your Sibelius serial number.
To be eligible for the 'trade-up' the serial number of your existing Sibelius product must begin with Z (Sibelius Student), X (Sibelius First), G (G7), or Y (Sibelius Instrumental Teacher Edition), or the Activation ID for your copy of Sibelius First must begin with SFAA. Sibelius 2012 onwards is also eligible.
To register your Avid Audio product, please locate the serial number included on your registration card and enter it in the serial number box below (it will begin with a set of letters followed by a numerical number). Please note that in some cases, products or systems with multiple components/boxes may contain multiple registration cards. Please be sure to locate all cards to ensure complete registration.
